Key Risks & Control Measures
Hard Sports Hall Floor / Limited Mats (approx. 24)
- High-risk activities only take place on fully matted areas
- Mats prioritised for floor work and skill learning
- No jumping, tumbling, rolling, or inverted skills on unmatted floor
- Activities adapted to suit mat availability
Trips and Falls
- Mats laid flat and securely
- Clear walkways maintained
- Layout checked throughout sessions
Head Injuries / Collisions
- Group sizes matched to available space
- Clear boundaries between activity areas
- Close supervision at all times
New or Complex Skills
- Taught progressively and only under qualified supervision
- Spotting provided where required
Unsupervised Equipment Use
- Equipment stored safely when not in use
- Children only access equipment with coach permission
Unsafe Behaviour
- Clear behaviour expectations set at the start of each session
- Unsafe behaviour addressed immediately
Staff-to-Child Ratios
- 1:16 for British Gymnastics qualified coaches
- 1:10 for other coaches
Clothing, Jewellery & Footwear
- Appropriate gymnastics clothing required
- Jewellery removed
- Bare feet or grip socks only
Medical Needs & Allergies
- Information collected from parents in advance
- Nut-free policy enforced
General Safety
- Enhanced DBS checks for all staff
- Equipment checked before every session
- Safety briefings delivered at the start of activities
- Children supervised at all times

- First aid kits available and trained staff on site
- Medical information accessible during sessions
- Risk assessment reviewed annually or following an incident
