JB Gymnastics is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children attending our gymnastics camps. We recognise our responsibility to provide a safe, supportive, and positive environment where children aged 4–12 can enjoy physical activity, build confidence, and thrive.
This policy outlines our safeguarding arrangements, responsibilities, reporting procedures, and key contacts.

2. Purpose of This Policy
This safeguarding policy ensures that:
- The welfare of children is always the paramount consideration
- Children are protected from abuse, harm, neglect, and exploitation
- Clear procedures are in place to identify, respond to, and report concerns
- Staff and volunteers understand their safeguarding responsibilities
- JB Gymnastics meets its safeguarding obligations under UK law and guidance
3. Responsibilities of Staff and Volunteers
All staff and volunteers at JB Gymnastics must:
- Place the safety and wellbeing of children above all else
- Act immediately on any safeguarding concern, no matter how small
- Follow this safeguarding policy at all times
- Maintain professional boundaries with children
- Never promise confidentiality to a child
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is responsible for:
- Managing safeguarding concerns and referrals
- Liaising with external safeguarding agencies
- Ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed
- Keeping safeguarding records securely
4. Reporting Safeguarding Concerns
If you are concerned about the safety or wellbeing of a child:
- Report immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead:

- If the concern is urgent, or the DSL is unavailable, contact the appropriate local or national safeguarding services listed below.
All concerns will be taken seriously and handled sensitively, confidentially, and in line with safeguarding procedures.

6. Creating a Safe Environment
JB Gymnastics is committed to maintaining a safe environment by ensuring that:
- All staff undergo enhanced DBS checks before working with children
- Appropriate staff-to-child ratios are maintained
- Risk assessments are carried out for activities, equipment, and venues
- Children are supervised at all times
- Clear behaviour expectations are in place for staff and children
- Any concerns about behaviour are addressed promptly and appropriately
7. Training and Awareness
- All staff must complete safeguarding training before working with children
- Safeguarding training is refreshed annually
- Staff are kept up to date with safeguarding guidance and best practice
- The DSL ensures safeguarding knowledge remains current
8. Parental and Guardian Engagement
JB Gymnastics values open communication with parents and guardians.
Parents are encouraged to:
- Share relevant information that may affect their child’s safety or wellbeing
- Raise any safeguarding concerns with the DSL
- Work collaboratively with JB Gymnastics to support their child
9. Review of This Policy
This safeguarding policy will be:
- Reviewed annually
- Updated sooner if required due to changes in legislation, guidance, or best practice
